How to Hire the Best Keynote Speaker for Your Event

David Avrin, a keynote speaker with more than 20 years of public speaking experience, offers the following tips on finding the right speaker for your company:

1. Know What Your Decision Makers Want

Before you begin searching, make sure to have all your decision-makers and stakeholders on the same page about what they want in a speaker. Having everyone agree at the beginning will ensure that everyone has an understanding of what the expectations are going to be. Their expectations will also be aligned with yours. They'll respect you more for respecting their

2. Consider the Type of Event

There are various types of events looking for speakers, but it's best to know what they are and what they're looking for. The larger the event, the more specific the speaker needs to be. For example, a corporate event will seek more technical information. In contrast, a smaller event may want something more inspirational and motivational. On the other hand, an event looking to hire a comedian will want someone with a lot of charisma and stage presence

3. Talk Topic

It might seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many events, and conferences can get this wrong. Having relevant speakers makes you look more professional as an event organizer and makes your attendees feel more welcome and at ease. You can't do that if you're flooding your event with big-name speakers instead of relevant speakers to your crowd.

4. Watch Videos of Them Speaking

The best way to know if a speaker is right for your event is to view their videos. A video will give you an idea of what the speaker looks like, how they are dressed, how they move around the stage, and how they address a crowd. It will also give you a sense of their personality. We all have different tastes, so it's a good idea to check their videos to see who you feel the most comfortable with.

5. Read Testimonials About Them

Testimonials from past clients or customers can decide when to hire a speaker for your next event. A bad story about the professional you may hire for your event can spread like wildfire on social media. This can leave a bad taste in the mouth of the attendees and potential customers.
